Signup for Roundtable, and Camp O Ree

Camp O Ree Update:  for Boy Scout Troops, the September 25-27 Camp O Ree details are evolving:  the theme is "Out of this World" (based on Astronomy and Different Activities outside of the Earth), and the District cost is $8 per Scout (plus your Troop food and other costs).  Look here to see who is going, and click here to sign up (scroll to find your name and note how many you think are attending; yes, in this Website, you're listed as a "Scout" -- if your Troop won't attend, just enter "1" and add a comment that you "can't go").  Roundtable RSVPs:  Similarly, you can now "RSVP" attendance for any of the upcoming Roundtable events -- see the "Event Registration" links to the right on the Home Page.   Each Rountable Entry also has links so that you can easily email the Rountable Commissioners with questions and requests about the Program.

Changes to Cub Scout Program Coming . . . (less "themes", more "Fast Tracks")

Posted on Sep 1 2009 - 10:48am

The National BSA Website has now announced a program evolution of the Cub Scout Program called Cub Scouts 2010. Primary changes are "Program Helps" and the corresponding "monthly themes" are discontinued as semi-official "things you should do", and the Fast Tracks on the Advancement Trail meeting plans will be the primary suggested way to "do meetings" (and will result in an new Leader Guide that won't change year to year). Many in South Fulton will not be surprised or affected by this, because many Packs in South Fulton were already doing a "Fast Tracks" meeting plan before we knew it was even a "pilot BSA program", and we've been teaching the Fast Tracks concepts for years. And worry not for the passing of "Program Helps": the good ideas that can be found and used within "Program Helps" annuals should live on because Program Helps is online here and here, and, like other Links such as Baloo's Bugle, those fun things (from any era) can be a done anytime you need "just the right fun thing" for your next meeting. This emphasis on Fun is important, because the main downside of "official" Fast Tracks (as noted in our Fast Tracks Page) is that it is too unimaginative and inflexible, and does not give good alternatives or provide enough fun stuff. More as it develops . . . and Fast Tracks is covered at our Cub Leader Training on Saturday, September 19, 9:30-2:30!
