September Roundtable: Activity Planning Made Fun and Simple

Posted on Aug 26 2011 - 2:44pm

OK, in May we reviewed a whole year's worth of Activities you could put on your Unit's Schedule (and that month by month list of activity ideas is still here), now for the Leader's Roundtable on September 15, we'll drill down to cover the details -- how to plan just one activity (our example will be a day or weekend at Camp in October, sort of like our Cub n Camp o Ree, but if you're not going to that, don't worry, what we cover will be good for you even if your day or weekend at Camp in October is OA Trailblazer at Bert Adams at Bert Adams, a Camp Thunder Spookoree or the Duty to God encampment at Bert Adams or something else).  We'll break out the tasks so you can share the work to allow your unit to be successful without YOU doing everything.  Sign up here.  Not listed?  Email the Webmaster.

Sign up for Free Pizza at the Next Cub Leader Training Class: Two Thursdays August 25 and September 1.

Posted on Aug 23 2011 - 7:16pm

It's like Roundtable but with lots of Pizza . . . Cub Leader training is scheduled for successive Thursdays, Part One on August 25 at 7:00 (which will give you an overview of the Methods of Cub Scouting, including Activities, Advancement, Uniform, Den structure and Scouting Ideals, all presented within a Cub Scout meeting format) and Part Two on September 1 at 7:00 (which will give you information about the key jobs in your Cub Scout Pack, how you do them with a Pack that is the size of your Pack, and how you then evolve as you get more Scouts and Leaders -- basically, this is to make sure that everyone knows how to run a Cub Scout activity or help those Den Leaders and Cubmasters as they run those events) (more details in those links to the calendar), with signup for both here in this register or here in this On Line Survey.  Nobody had signed up yet for it, but if you were really really set on training on August 27, you can still do training that day: there are other courses on that day, including two separate outdoor Cub Leader trainings (BALOO) plus a regular Cub Leader Training.

They say there is no such thing as a Free Lunch, but the BSA gives Adult Leaders a Free Breakfast . . .

Posted on Aug 16 2011 - 1:27pm

. . . on Saturday, August 27, at 9:00am, registered Adult Leaders are invited to attend the "House of Scouts Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast" at the Volunteer Service Center, 1800 Circle 75 Pkwy SE, Atlanta, GA 30339, with Breakfast prepared by Waffle House.  Register through the Atlanta Area Council Calendar here, where you will find more details -- and we are told that this event is not limited to just two adult leaders per unit, but that all adult leaders are invited.  Enjoy!
